As a preschool teacher or early childhood educator, your days can be stressful.  Practicing gratitude has a lot of positive effects, from improving our mental health and feeling happier…to boosting our relationships with others.  A gratitude journal is a tool to keep track of the good things that happen.  No matter how stressed, frustrated or burned out you may feel, there is always something to feel grateful for.

In addition to keeping a gratitude journal for your everyday life, we suggest keeping a gratitude journal of your life as an early childhood teacher or caregiver.  Gratitude journals can be hand-written, online, or in an app.

Here are some questions to get you thinking about what you are grateful for in the child care setting:

  1. What made you laugh out loud or smile today?
  2. What made you proud today?
  3. What pleasantly surprised you today?
  4. What child made your day today?
  5. What co-worker made your day today?
  6. How did your director inspire you today?
  7. How did a child inspire you today?
  8. How did a co-worker inspire you today?
  9. What are your strengths as an early childhood educator?
  10. What is something nice that a parent told you today?
